NAMIBIA

When: Aug 24 - Sep 6, 2027
Style: Landscape, Wildlife, and Astro!
Activity Rating: Mild
Max Students: 10
Includes: Lodging, Meals, and Transportation During Workshop!

Join 319 Photography for an exclusive 14-day / 13-night photographic adventure through the world’s oldest desert, designed for photographers who want it all: epic landscapes, surreal desert formations, wildlife, and some of the darkest night skies on Earth. From dunes to deserts, coastlines to game parks, this UNIQUE / Workshop leaves nothing on the table.

From your arrival in Windhoek on August 24, 2027, every location, transfer, and shooting window has been intentionally selected for optimal light and access, supported by your 319 Photography instructors alongside local photography guides and experienced local drivers. We begin with acclimation nights in the capital before heading deep into Namibia’s visual heart - photographing ancient quiver trees glowing at dawn, abstract dune patterns in the vast NamibRand (an exclusive access experience), and legendary night skies that feel endless.

A highlight of the journey is Sossusvlei and Dead Vlei, where staying inside the national park allows early access to towering red dunes and centuries-old camel thorn trees before the crowds arrive. From there, the adventure shifts to the Atlantic coast in Swakopmund, blending desert and ocean with a unique Living Desert experience focused on intimate macro and detail photography.

The final chapters take us into rugged Damaraland - home to desert-adapted elephants, ancient rock art, and unforgettable stargazing - before concluding in Etosha National Park, where nights are spent photographing wildlife gathering at the iconic floodlit waterhole of Okaukuejo.

This is a comprehensive, immersive, and intentionally small-group expedition built to challenge, inspire, and reward photographers who want far more than a checkbox trip.

If you’ve ever dreamed of photographing Namibia in its full breadth, this is that journey.

HAVE SPECIFIC GEAR QUESTIONS?

We want YOU to get the most you possibly can from our UNIQUE / Workshops.

Part of getting the most you can from our Workshops is making sure you have the right gear for this style of photography.  Unfortunately, not all digital cameras and lenses are made equal.  That said, we will work with whatever you have to help you create memorable images.

If you have any questions, whatsoever, concerning cameras, lens, tripods, intervalometers, laptops, or other accessories, please reach out to Tony via email at tony@319photography.com and he will gladly help you choose the right gear for the workshop.

WHAT IS THE CLIMATE LIKE?

During the workshop timeframe Namibia is in its dry season, offering mostly clear skies, minimal rainfall, and excellent light for photography. Daytime temperatures in inland regions such as Windhoek, the Namib Desert, and Etosha typically range from about 70 °F to 86 °F (21 °C to 30 °C), with the hottest days in early September and slightly cooler days in late August. Nights and early mornings are cool to chilly, with lows often between 45 °F and 59 °F (7 °C to 15 °C) - especially in desert and high-plateau locations - so warm layers are essential for pre-sunrise shoots and open-vehicle game drives. Conditions are driest and clearest at this time of year, with little to no rain and exceptional visibility for landscapes, wildlife, and night-sky photography.

WHAT IS THE ACTIVITY LEVEL LIKE?

Activity level on this Namibia workshop is best described as moderate and very manageable for most photographers, with the main physical challenge coming from walking on soft sand in the dune environments, ingress and egress from high clearance vehicles, and travel on bumpy roads.

Most shooting locations are reached by vehicle with short walks, but Dead Vlei is the exception: plan on a ~1 mile (1.6 km) hike one-way across sand to reach the prime compositions, and the return hike is the same distance. Soft sand makes this feel more demanding than the mileage suggests.

WHICH NIGHTS ARE INCLUDED AND WHERE ARE WE STAYING?

Tuition for this workshop INCLUDES THIRTEEN NIGHTS double-occupancy lodging beginning Tuesday, August 24, 2027 through our last lodging night, Sunday, September 5, 2027.

We have hand-picked some of the best accommodations for their level of luxury and proximity to the most desirable photography locations throughout this workshop.  Below, you can read more detailed information on our lodging throughout the workshop and view images from our various accomodations!
